Ryanair: non-priority passengers
All passengers are entitled to bring on board one small personal bag to be placed under the seat in front (40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm). Typical examples include a handbag, a laptop bag, or a small backpack. Duty free purchases are allowed in addition to your Ryanair hand luggage.
Ryanair: 10kg checked bag
This service allows you to check a 10kg bag at the Ryanair bag drop desk. The bag will be collected from the baggage carousel at your arrival airport. Ryanair customers without priority who did not purchase a checked bag during booking can still add a 10kg bag at the airport bag drop desk for an additional fee.
Ryanair: Priority & 2 cabin bags
Ryanair: 20kg checked bag
(update November 2018, official Ryanair website)
From November 1, 2018, Ryanair passengers without Priority Boarding who want to carry a large (10kg) cabin bag (trolley) must purchase the 10kg checked bag option. Booking this during your initial Ryanair reservation costs €8; if added later (up to 40 minutes before scheduled departure), the price is €10.
The 10kg checked bag must be dropped off at the Ryanair bag drop desk before security. Non-priority Ryanair passengers who haven’t pre-booked a 10kg checked cabin bag may purchase one at the airport: €20 at the bag drop desk or €25 at the boarding gate. The bag will be collected at your destination baggage area (Remember: you’ll need your passport handy for passport control at arrival). You can purchase the registered hand baggage according to the new Ryanair policy from September 1, 2018 onward for travel from November 1, 2018 (inclusive).
Key benefits of the new policy: reduced flight delays and cheaper checked luggage options. More benefits: you can pack more liquids in your 10kg checked hand luggage and walk to your gate hands-free. Also, the size of the small cabin bag has increased by 43%, from 35x20x20 cm to 40x20x25 cm.
What’s different from the previous Ryanair hand luggage policy?
Previously, all Ryanair customers without Priority Boarding could take one small cabin bag and one larger bag (trolley) for free in the cabin.
The bigger bag was tagged at the gate and put in the hold for free, resulting in up to 120 free bags tagged at the gate and departure delays up to 25 minutes.
From November, only one small cabin bag is allowed in the cabin for non-priority customers, with no more free hold bags at the gate. Only Priority Boarding customers can continue to bring two cabin bags for free.
What changes for Ryanair customers who booked before September 1 to travel after November 1?
The new baggage policy applies to all flights from November 1. Ryanair passengers without Priority Boarding who booked before September 1 (for travel after November 1) can add Priority Boarding for €8* or a 10kg checked bag for €10*, or cancel their booking for a full refund.*(price for post-booking addition)
What if the “small” bag doesn’t fit in the Ryanair sizer?
If the free small bag doesn’t fit the new size checker, it’s more than 25% bigger than allowed. A €25 fee applies, and the bag is placed in the hold.
Where do small bags go on board a Ryanair flight?
Small hand luggage must fit under the seat in front of you.
How many trolleys fit on board?
About 100 trolleys can fit in the overhead lockers, enough for all Priority Boarding passengers.
What if more than 100 want to buy Ryanair Priority Boarding?
Not possible: Priority Boarding is limited to 95 customers per flight (out of 189 seats).
What about infants—can parents still carry an extra bag?
Yes, customers flying with a child under 2 may carry an additional small bag of up to 5kg for free.
