Il Museo del Parco delle Pianelle di Martina Franca is located in the eighteenth-century Palazzo Ducale and houses evidence of the rich environmental heritage of the Parco Naturale delle Pianelle, a particular ecosystem situated in the Murge between Massafra, Cristiano, and Martina Franca, characterized by a typically Mediterranean flora. The Museo delle Pianelle was founded in 1999 with the aim of creating a scientific-educational structure capable of guaranteeing an enjoyment of the Natural Park, so much so as to constitute a prelude to the visit of the natural reserve. The seat of the Naturalistic Museum is the splendid Palazzo Ducale from the second half of the 17th century, built by the will of the eighth Duke of Martina Petracone V Caracciolo on the remains of the ancient castle of Raimondello del Balzo Orsini from 1338. The building, whose facade is in Baroque style, consists of a large staircase that leads to a Baroque portal allowing access to the precious halls of the Palace: Chapel of the Dukes, Hall of Arcadia, Hall of Myth, and Hall of the Bible. On the second floor of the Palace, a modern multifunctional structure of the Museum illustrates the landscape and cultural riches of the Pianelle Reserve.
