Nuqui and Bahia Solano, the Unknown Colombia

Nuqui is the ideal destination for travelers, for lovers wanting to experience a rediscovered paradise, for those who love nature and travel “light”, for those who love surfing, diving, whales, oil lamps in the evening, maybe cold showers, for those who love good food, for those who love the sound of the sea at night, for those seeking something truly new.

For an unknown Pacific, full of mists and breathtaking landscapes, a landscape you did not expect and therefore even more spectacular, of which no one tells you, where walking along the long beaches spanning kilometers, you meet rare local inhabitants and a few boats, a world still to be discovered that even Colombians themselves do not know. What to expect: vegetation similar to that of the Amazon (it rains more here), with kilometers of beautiful beaches especially during low tide, rare local clusters with straw houses, plenty of sea and boat trips, two National Parks (de los Katios and Utria), the whales that come for mating in August and September, a multitude of large fish, walks, surfing, kayaking, fishing and canoeing, and practically no one on the long beaches.
Utría National Park (In Bahia Solano). A park of 54,300 hectares of which 12,000 are marine area. With 20 years of history, it is considered one of the most important parks in the country. Its aim is to preserve tropical swampy coastlines, estuaries, coral reefs, and tropical forest. The indigenous community of Jurubida lives here.
de los Katios National Park. It is located on the border with Panama (north of Bahia Solano) covering 72,000 hectares. UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 and only open to researchers. It houses endangered animals such as Manatees (or Sea Cows), Andean Bears, white eagles, Howler monkeys, and paujiles, a kind of peacock from the Cracidae family, and trees up to 50 meters high.
How to get there: from Milan via Paris or Madrid to Bogotá, Bogotá-Medellin flight (40′), Medellin-Nuqui flight (45-50′). Small plane – small aircraft (small luggage) from Nuqui to the eco lodge (50′).
Recommended period: for sun: January, February, March. For surfing: April and May, variable weather but great climate. To see large fish from January to June. To see the whales particularly in August and September.
