The museum, unique of its kind, is housed inside the Renaissance Cusani Palace. It documents through the exhibition of objects, photographs, posters, and multimedia supports the centuries-old musical and theatrical tradition of Parma, which began in 1628 with the inauguration of the Farnese Theatre. The visit path allows retracing the essential aspects of the opera theater’s history, documenting its transformation from a show reserved for a select few to a public event, also marked by the construction of public theaters such as the Ducal Theatre (1687) and the New Ducal Theatre, today’s Teatro Regio (1829). Of particular interest is the section dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, titled “1913: the first Verdi Festival,” which explores aspects of the figure and work of the great Maestro.
