The museum, unique of its kind, is housed inside the Renaissance Palazzo Cusani. It documents through the exhibition of objects, photographs, posters, and multimedia supports the centuries-old musical and theatrical tradition of Parma, which began in 1628 with the inauguration of the Teatro Farnese. The visit itinerary allows retracing the essential aspects of the opera theatre’s history, documenting its transformation from a show reserved for a select few to a public event, also marked by the construction of public theatres such as the Teatro Ducale (1687) and the Nuovo Teatro Ducale, today’s Teatro Regio (1829). Of particular interest is the section dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, titled “1913: the first Verdi Festival”, which explores aspects of the figure and the work of the great Maestro.
