The museum is housed inside the ancient Vitali Palace, located in the historic center of the town near the adjacent Palazzo Zagarese, which hosts the Civic Museum of Rende. The Museum preserves a permanent collection of about 20 works by Achille Capizzano, dating from the late 1920s to the post-war period. It also exhibits works by forty artists from the last forty years of the twentieth century, with a particular focus on the Calabria and southern Italy area. In 2004, the museum acquired the model of the monument The Children’s Bell Tower, located in Bodega Bay, California, created by sculptor Bruce Hasson and dedicated to little Nicolas Green, who was killed in Calabria in 1994. In 2006, the museum was donated a substantial collection of about one hundred paintings, sculptures, and graphic works, as well as around a thousand art books, gifted by the Cosenza collector Luigi Ladaga. Among the artists of the works donated by Ladaga are: Umberto Mastroianni, Mario Ceroli, Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Nicola Carrino, Lucio Del Pezzo, Antonio Corpora, Roberto Crippa, Nino Longobardi, Nicola De Maria, Enzo Esposito, Mario Persico, Ernesto Treccani, Carlo Levi, Antonio Paradiso. Also well represented are graphic works by: Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Jean Cocteau, Sonia Delaunay, Giacomo Balla, Massimo Campigli, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Henry Moore, Antoni Tàpies, Pierre Corneille, Graham Sutherland, Sebastián Matta, Fausto Pirandello, Mario Tozzi, Emilio Greco, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Mimmo Rotella, Christo, Giulio Turcato, Jannis Kounellis, Mimmo Paladino, Hans Richter, Gianni Dova, Valerio Adami, Enrico Baj.
