The collection is located on the first floor of the medieval Porta Romana tower, near the Church of Sant’Agostino in Gubbio. The tower once defended one of the ancient city gates.
The museum traces the different phases of traditional lusterware ceramic production and houses important pieces by Master Giorgio Andreoli.
In continuity with the significant local ceramic tradition, the collection includes works ranging from the 16th century to the 1950s. Among these is a plate featuring Saint Anthony of Padua, dated 1531 and signed on both front and back by Master Giorgio Andreoli. Active in Gubbio between 1495 and 1555, he was among the first in Italy to execute lusterware, a special technique from the Islamic world that gives the surface iridescent reflections in ruby tones—typical of the Gubbio production—yellow, green, and gold.
