The Way of the Protomartyrs was born in memory of the first martyrs of the Franciscan order: Berardo, Ottone, Pietro, Accursio and Adiuto, killed in Morocco on January 16, 1220. Their remains are kept in the Shrine of the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Terni, the first stop of this spiritual path located in Umbria.
The route is about 100 kilometers long and divided into six daily stages forming a circular route, with start and finish located in Terni. The heart of the journey consists of the churches you will encounter along the path, with a total of 21 sacred places to admire, telling the story of the Franciscan protomartyrs.

A journey mostly through nature, but there are also places of great historical and cultural importance, such as the majestic Rocca di Albonorz, the remains of the Bridge of Augustus and the archaeological site of Carsulae, in addition to the aforementioned churches and abbeys.
