In the apartments of the Ducal Palace, home to the Military Academy since 1862, is the museum dedicated to the memory of former cadet officers of military academies who died in war. Established in 1905, the museum recently reopened after careful and meticulous restoration. The rooms display relics and memories of soldiers who perished during the Risorgimento uprisings, colonial wars, and the two world wars, along with documents related to the history of the Academy from 1863 to the present day. The museum’s collection also includes some historic uniforms, a collection of military figurines and models, and two tricolor flags: one donated in 1849 by Carlo Alberto to the Military Academy of Turin, the other, from 1891, belonging to the Infantry and Cavalry Academy. The exhibition path solemnly concludes with the “Golden Room,” housing the portraits of about five hundred officers awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor, and the “Temple of Glory,” an evocative oval-shaped room embellished with columns, which serves as a mausoleum for the fallen of the First World War.
