In the halls of the “Palazzo di Marcabruno,” there is a permanent exhibition illustrating the Battle of Calliano through reconstructions, videos, and models. On August 10, 1487, the plain below the castle was the site of a clash between Tyrolean and Venetian troops advancing toward Trento in an attempt to expand their control over the area. The Republic of Venice suffered an unexpected and resounding defeat, and the renowned commander Roberto da Sanseverino lost his life in battle. A replica of his tombstone, depicting him with the inverted banner of St. Mark, is on display.
The painted series of coats of arms instead recalls the Tyrolean nobles who fought in the battle, the first to see the fearsome Landsknechts face off against Italian troops.
