The arrival of spring also brings the preparation period for the Easter holidays. In some European countries, the tradition of setting up Easter markets is still very strong and, just like Christmas markets, they allow you to make themed purchases, especially of traditional typical sweets.

The Easter markets in Villach, an Austrian town in Carinthia, are the emblem of these timeless ancient traditions.
The Easter market is set up right in the historic center of Villach, in St. Jacob’s Square: numerous stalls, festively decorated with a springtime atmosphere, will color the square and welcome visitors.

Inside the market, there will also be an area dedicated to children, featuring rides and a passing little train. Also nearby, the little ones can get up close to some animals, as a small zoo is set up for the Easter festivities.
As for the rest of the stands at the actual Easter market in Villach, the offerings range from local artistic crafts to gastronomic products.

The “strong points” over the years remain the decorated eggs, black bread, and other local food and wine specialities like Reindling, the typical Carinthian sweet made with yeast, raisins, and cinnamon. Artisans also offer souvenirs and home accessories, such as carved candles and the famous Weihkorbdecken linen napkins.

The Villach Easter market usually stays open for about ten days – approximately from the Thursday before Easter to the following Sunday – from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, except on Holy Saturday when the stalls close early at 2:00 PM.
