Gorizia, from the Bastion Fiorito to Collio and Surroundings

A trip to the rolling hills of Collio leads to Gorizia, an ancient city dominated by an 11th-century castle, rebuilt between 1933 and 1937, which houses the War and Medieval Museum of Gorizia inside.

In summer, the Bastione Fiorito, in Gorizia, one of its most scenic towers, turns into a kind of open-air lounge where people meet, listen to music, and dance.

Not to be missed are the Neptune Fountain in Piazza Vittoria; the Synagogue on Via Ascoli transformed into a Museum; the Parco Piuma Isonzo; the garden of Villa Coronini Cronberg and, towards Oslavia, the Isonzo Bridge, where the water takes on an incredible turquoise color. Cormòns is the small capital of Collio, the hub of one of the most important wine regions in Europe.

Gorizia is a town with a typical Habsburg layout, rich in palaces and historical memories: right here, in 1866, the armistice between Italy and Austria was signed, ending the Third War of Independence.
