Within the Gaiola park, the integral reserve zone includes the stretch of sea facing the Posillipo promontory and the islets of Gaiola, while the general reserve zone includes the remaining area within the park’s perimeter. The underwater landscape consists of a mix of marine populations, encouraged by the water circulation system in the gulf, and remains of archaeological structures: harbor basins, nymphaea, and fishponds, currently submerged due to the slow sinking of the earth’s crust (bradyseism), connected to the overlying Villa of Vedio Pollione.
