The Church of San Barbaziano is a deconsecrated church in Bologna located at the intersection of Via Barberia and Via Cesare Battisti.
It was built between 1608 and 1612 by Pietro Fiorini to replace the old church of the convent of the same name, which was deemed unsuitable for the new liturgical needs defined by the Council of Trent. It consists of a single nave with eight side chapels (four on each side), some of which were part of the original church and incorporated into the new structure.
Following the Napoleonic wars in 1797, the church and the related convent were confiscated and sold to private owners who converted the church into a warehouse and stripped it of its contents.
In 1870, the property passed to the military administration, which continued to use it as a storage facility, even adding a mezzanine floor to better utilize the space.
Due to the long period of improper use, much of the decoration has disappeared and the building is in poor condition.
In recent years, ownership transferred to the cultural heritage authority, but as of 2014, restoration has not yet begun.
