The Museum, aptly named Casa del Pescatore, is set up inside a property owned by the Municipality of Lesina, located on the lakeside, partly used as the Visitor Center for the Gargano National Park. The idea of creating a museum of lagoon culture in Capitanata began in the 1990s, aiming to establish a modernly organized and equipped holder of “pieces,” scientifically selected, that tells the story of human presence in this territory since its beginnings. Thanks to the help of the citizens of Lesina, who donated the objects that today make up the museum’s collection to the Municipality, lagoon culture has been preserved by recovering the traditions and experiences related to the economy, work, life, and society of the people, investigating a millennial history of peoples who lived between land and water in a province otherwise known for shepherding and agriculture. The Municipality also recovered an old “sandalo,” an ancient lagoon boat, and built in the location
