Since 1946 it has been the residence of the Bargellini family, who also lived here during the years when Piero Bargellini was mayor of Florence.
In 1966, the year of the flood that severely damaged the entire historic center of the city, Bargellini was a figure very close to the residents and opened the palace, although damaged by the water of the Arno river, to host those in need of shelter.
