The ancient building located in Largo Arrigo VII in Rome, known as Casa Bellezza – although the name actually belongs to the modern townhouse above, which belonged in the 1930s to the maestro Vincenzo Bellezza – was uncovered and partially excavated during a renovation of the building in the 1950s; subsequent interventions by the Superintendence carried out structural reinforcements and restoration of the paintings.

A recent study by F. Boldrighini allowed for a comprehensive re-examination of the data related to the building’s architectural and layout development between the Republican and Imperial ages.

Of the rich Roman domus, located partly beneath the modern construction, partly under its garden, and partially under the street (about 10 meters deep), a portion of the basement floor and traces of some rooms on the upper floor have been preserved. The remains currently consist of two frescoed rooms opening onto a cryptoporticus; a third room, also certainly painted, remains buried and has not been excavated due to structural issues of the modern building above.
