The Municipality of Canosa di Puglia, by a resolution of November 25, 1933, No. 280, established a Civic Museum, whose co-administration responsibilities are directly entrusted to the Municipal Administration. On December 28, 1933, the Civic Museum was thus born, initially located in the 19th-century Casieri Palace, at Via Terenzio Marrone 45. The architecturally neoclassical structure featured seven rooms exhibiting extraordinary finds dating from the 6th-5th century BC to the 9th-10th century AD. In May 2007, the Museum was relocated due to remodeling to the nearby Palazzo Iliceto, located at Via Trieste e Trento, 20. The new museum venue is characterized by an entrance staircase, which allows access through a portico to the area designated as the exhibition space. The Civic Museum houses a broad collection of archaeological finds including Daunian pottery, bronzes, inscriptions, stone and marble artifacts dating from the Augustan age to the 3rd century AD. The exhibition route begins on the first floor with the Daunian section “Tu en Daunios,” extending from Room I to Room VII. Then it proceeds to the ground floor with the section dedicated to inscriptions.
