The museum of the small Cilentan town, housed within the municipal building, preserves numerous Lucanian archaeological finds dating back to the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, discovered within the municipal territory of Roccagloriosa, found in the residential complex known as the “Central Complex” and in the monumental necropolis. The oldest evidence of early occupation of the site dates back to the 2nd millennium BC, but a proper settlement began to form only from the 5th century BC, on the so-called crest of the Capitanali, then experiencing significant development in the Lucanian period between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, a period to which the inhabited area and the massive limestone city walls surrounding the plateau for 1.2 km belong, outside of which extended the necropolis area. The museum, set up in a single room, houses the artifacts found during several excavation campaigns within the inhabited area and necropolises, items that testify to the site’s life up to the late Imperial and medieval periods.
