Tuscany confirms itself as a region at the forefront of local public transport by being the first in Italy to introduce Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) for subscription purchases. This innovation arises from the collaboration between Scalapay, the European leader in BNPL, and at – autolinee toscane, the operator of the regional bus service.
With over 900 urban and extra-urban lines, 2,795 buses, and 37,000 stops spread over more than 13,000 km of network, at thoroughly covers the Tuscan territory, connecting cities, villages, and coastal locations. The initiative allows users to spread the payment of subscriptions over 3 or 4 interest-free installments, purchasing them conveniently via the Scalapay app or on at’s webshop.
This solution meets the needs of families, students, and workers, easing the financial impact of recurring expenses in a context of increasing attention to the cost of living. Moreover, it represents a significant step towards a new culture of public mobility, more accessible, sustainable, and aligned with digital innovations.
Matteo Ciccalè, VP Growth of Scalapay, emphasizes how the possibility of installment payments for essential expenses like public transport can improve personal budget management. Tommaso Rosa, Marketing and Communications Director of at, highlights that this is the first regional network in Italy to adopt BNPL, offering customers greater flexibility and a more modern and inclusive travel experience.
The integration of the Scalapay solution is already operational and aims to facilitate access to public transport, improving the efficiency and quality of the service for thousands of users every day.
