The engines of Alitalia planes are revving up again for both international and domestic routes. From June 2nd, several national and international flights will be restored. Specifically: from Rome to New York, Madrid, and Barcelona.

Domestic routes are also resuming with Alitalia flights between Milan and southern Italy. The Italian flag carrier will operate 30 routes from 25 airports, of which 15 are in Italy and 10 abroad.

Specifically, from Milan Malpensa – the airport where Alitalia will continue its operations until Linate reopens – Alitalia will operate, in addition to 8 daily services to Rome Fiumicino, two round-trip flights daily to Bari, Catania, and Palermo (unless existing restrictions on air transport to and from Sicily are extended), and 4 daily connections under Territorial Continuity with Cagliari, Alghero, and Olbia.

From Rome, after already increasing connections with Cagliari (from 4 to 6 per day), Alitalia has also increased flights to Catania and Palermo (from 6 to 8 per day).

In the month of June, Alitalia will connect the Fiumicino hub with Alghero, Bologna, Bari, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Milan, Naples, Olbia, Pisa, Turin, Venice and, internationally, with Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, and Zurich, as well as New York.

Alitalia flights from October

For the third quarter of 2020, Alitalia expects to operate at about 40% of the level that was originally planned before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of available flights will increase depending on demand trends, which already today show signs of a recovery on some domestic routes, and will benefit from the gradual removal by foreign countries of restrictions on flights and passengers coming from Italy, as well as from less discouraging guidelines regarding travel to our country.

Alitalia flights in June and July

In the months of June and July, Alitalia will also continue cargo operations with China, which so far have enabled the import of over 70 million protective masks and other healthcare supplies (respirators, gloves, goggles, and gowns) needed for the management of the Covid-19 emergency. After the 15 connections operated between March and April and the 24 that will be carried out in total in May, the airline has scheduled another 25 cargo flights for June.

In collaboration with the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the program of special flights for the repatriation of Italian citizens stranded abroad continues, including from airports not normally served by Alitalia. The airline is also preparing new connections with Argentina for the coming days.

All Alitalia passenger flights are operated using less than half the available seats on board, in order to comply with current legal requirements regarding minimum social distancing.
