Expedia Restarted from Travelers and Focuses on Mobile

Expedia, a leader in the online travel industry, has revamped its look focusing on a new global positioning centered on travelers' needs.

Expedia has decided to restart by focusing heavily on the needs of travelers. For this reason, a new design has been launched that considers the needs dictated by the post-pandemic period.

At the heart of this renewal is a new user experience of the Expedia platform that involves the mobile app and more than 70 websites worldwide. The new homepage displays a simple and clear design, with features that allow travelers to build their trip in every aspect, based on their needs and interests, easily matching the different parts that compose it. In addition to enabling the purchase of flights, accommodations, car rentals, and activities on a single platform, Expedia will introduce a series of updates aligned with its idea of a brand that aims to be the best possible travel companion.

New itinerary experience

A new experience in itinerary planning will allow those booking to view all trip details in one place, using the mobile app or website. This approach saves time and facilitates organization for those who value the advantage of booking all trip components on a single platform.

From the Expedia app, travelers will have the opportunity to restart from where they left off to organize their trip. A dedicated feature re-proposes recent searches and bookings to help users complete their itinerary.

Expedia will also launch a new offering for packages that will provide “ready-made products” (flight + accommodation + activities) with a pre-calculated final price. This way, customers no longer have to search through thousands of options but can still personalize the trip by adding or removing various elements.

Assistance at every stage

A new path in the evolution of Expedia’s insurance offerings will continue over the coming months with the aim of providing top-level service. Throughout the year, Expedia will simplify its insurance offerings in various aspects. Policies will be translated into easy-to-understand language. The company will optimize procedures for submitting claims, indicating more clearly the required documentation, the progress status of claims, and the next steps after submitting a request. This also improves coverage, with the addition of new features and immediate benefits through travel event monitoring to determine the admissibility of requests.

Expedia will also continue investing in its virtual assistance platform. Thanks to the “cancel with a click” feature, travelers will be able to cancel an entire trip or ask questions to the virtual assistant about their itinerary. They may, for example, receive information on health and safety measures adopted by a particular hotel, quickly finding a solution without waiting times.

To help travelers learn more about their destination, users will now be able to see the most requested activities nearby directly on the accommodation page. Activities can also be purchased after booking and during the stay. This will help travelers easily find things to do to make the most of their trip.

Enjoy each trip to the fullest

Expedia has simplified its Expedia Rewards loyalty program, which will be integrated into all accounts upon registration. This will allow 25 million travelers who were not part of the program to start earning points from their trips immediately upon next login. Expedia will introduce new benefits for Expedia Rewards during the year, making it increasingly easy for travelers to understand how to accumulate points, and will expand the loyalty program’s offerings.

To help travelers find the perfect flight and fare for their trip and provide an experience that truly best meets their needs, Expedia has recently launched a new procedure for purchasing flights, with a clearer view of available options, allowing customers to make more informed choices. Whether it’s information on carry-on baggage or seat reservation, these are extremely important details for travelers and a great example of how Expedia can help customers build the best possible flight experience.

Expedia has also introduced, before anyone else in the industry, the ability to book accommodations based on services. In the past, many services, such as parking or free breakfast, were included in the room rate. This made it difficult for travelers to compare offers and understand what they were actually purchasing at the time of booking. Travelers can now buy with greater peace of mind on Expedia, as the price differences for individual services will be explicitly and clearly indicated, eliminating the guesswork about what is included and what is not in the displayed rate.
