La Galleria Nazionale di Cosenza, located in the prestigious Palazzo Arnone, headquarters of the Superintendence for Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Calabria, consists of the collection of paintings that, starting from the 1980s, have been acquired by the State’s heritage. It documents significant moments of Italian art, particularly southern, from the sixteenth to the twentieth century and exhibits works by painters born in Calabria, from Pietro Negroni to Mattia Preti to Umberto Boccioni and, considering Calabria’s historic dependence on Naples, by Neapolitan artists who influenced the outcomes of local painting.
Recently, the Gallery, reopened to the public with an arrangement in line with European standards, received official institutional recognition with the Regional Decree establishing it on May 30, 2009.
