Il Museo dei Padri e della Maiolica was inaugurated in 2003 and is set up inside the Istituto d’Arte di Laterza. The museum route is divided into two sections. The first section is the Archaeological one concerning the important prehistoric findings of the Neolithic settlement of Fragenaro and the hemolytic necropolis of Candile. The second section deals with the local production of Maiolicas. Laterza, in fact, boasts an ancient ceramic tradition attested by ancient artifacts dating back to the Magna Graecia and Medieval age. The Laertine figurine from the period between the 17th and 18th centuries is particularly important.
