La Collezione Colosso, preserved in Ugento, inside the Palazzo Colosso, is one of the few historical collections in the Apulia region, formed with materials found in Ugento and its territory in the 19th century. The collection, started by Baron Adolfo Colosso, “a passionate historian of the homeland,” is remembered by local writers as always present on the ground floor of the eponymous Palazzo, “jealously guarded by the sons Luigi and Massimo Colosso.” The artifacts, 794 in total, overall date from the 6th century B.C. to the early medieval age. Added to these are modern age specimens such as armors and weapons, cannonballs, etc. The project to enhance the collection within the stables of Palazzo Colosso represents a significant initiative in the prospect of public enjoyment of the collection, whose formation dates back to the mid-19th century, a period in which collecting was crucial for the preservation in our region of specimens of the highest quality, also playing an important role in the formation of many Apulian museums.
