Palazzo Brancaleoni houses the archaic section of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Fara in Sabina and the municipal historical archive while the medieval section is located inside the Abbey of Farfa.
The Palace is a 15th-century building, belonging to the noble Brancaleoni family. It originated from the merging of some medieval structures, among which two tower-houses incorporated into the Renaissance renovation are recognizable, adapted to the new architectural and living standards of the 1400s that included reception floors reserved for the owners, richly decorated with frescoes and coffered wooden ceilings. In the five rooms of the “noble” floor, materials are displayed covering a chronological range from prehistory to the Roman age. In particular, among the exhibits are materials from the hut of Cures (8th century BC) and the gold leafs from the princely burial set of Colle del Forno (tomb XI-late 7th century BC).
On the ground floor, the municipal historical archive preserves documentation of the territory dating back to the end of the 15th century.
