Il Casino Nobile, which is already a “Museum” in itself from an architectural and decorative point of view, houses a small but valuable museum dedicated to what has been found in the Villa and comes from the very rich collection of statues of the Torlonia family – today mostly still owned by the family and kept in the Palazzo di via della Lungara – along with some chance finds, which have allowed to add a further piece to the history of the Villa.
What is on display gives us a precise idea of how the Torlonia family, particularly Giovanni (1756-1829) and his son Alessandro (1800-1880), succeeded, for almost a century, in being the undisputed protagonist of that tradition of collecting which originated at least in the 15th century, when the residences of illustrious Roman families began to be enriched with fine furnishings.
The museum path is completed by the reconstruction of Giovanni Torlonia’s bedroom (1872-1938), with the furniture that was later used by Benito Mussolini, during his stay in the Villa itself, from 1925 to 1943.
