The Casino Nobile, which is already a “Museum” in terms of architecture and decoration, houses a small but fine museum dedicated to what has been found in the Villa and coming from the very rich statuary collection of the Torlonia family – today largely still owned by the family and kept in the Palace of via della Lungara – together with some chance findings, which have allowed adding a further piece to the history of the Villa.
What is exhibited gives us a clear idea of how the Torlonia family, in particular Giovanni (1756-1829) and his son Alessandro (1800-1880), managed, for almost a century, to be the undisputed protagonist of that tradition of collecting which originated at least in the 15th century, when the residences of the illustrious Roman families began to enrich themselves with precious furnishings.
The museum path is completed by the reconstruction of Giovanni Torlonia’s (1872-1938) bedroom, with the furniture that was later used by Benito Mussolini, at the time of his stay at the Villa itself, from 1925 to 1943.
