The Museum of the Italian Red Cross was founded in 1981 and began its activities on November 22, 1986.
The Museum is located on the second floor and in the attic, specially set up, of the C.R.I. headquarters building in Campomorone. This facility is unique in the country and complements the International Red Cross Museum of Castiglione delle Stiviere, in the province of Mantua, established in 1959 on the site of the Battle of Solferino of 1859. Currently, the museum consists of 11 exhibition rooms, 39 open panels placed on the staircase containing Conventions, Red Cross Principles, period photos from wartime, display cases with C.R.I. documents and objects used during the two world wars; as well as philatelic material, including postcards and letters to and from prisoner of war camps or missing soldier search camps, and very rare photographic documents from the wartime period and beyond. Of great interest is the exhibition set up in the attic, which constitutes the environment of a hospital and other military relief situations. In total, there are about 500 exhibited objects, inventoried, described, and cataloged, in addition to a large amount of material not yet exhibited, amounting to about 200 pieces.
