The Museum of the Italian Red Cross was established in 1981 and began its activity on November 22, 1986.
The Museum is located on the second floor and in the attic, specially arranged, of the Italian Red Cross Headquarters building in Campomorone. This facility is unique in the country and complements the International Red Cross Museum of Castiglione delle Stiviere, in the province of Mantua, which was established in 1959 on the site of the Battle of Solferino of 1859. Currently, the museum consists of 11 exhibition rooms, 39 backlit panels placed on the staircase, containing Conventions, Principles of the Red Cross, historical photos from wartime periods, display cases with documents and Italian Red Cross objects used during the two world wars; as well as philatelic material, including postcards and letters to and from prisoner or missing soldiers’ search camps, and very rare photographic documents from both wartime and other periods. Of great interest is the exhibition set up in the attic, which recreates a hospital environment and other military rescue situations. In total, there are about 500 objects on display, inventoried, described, and cataloged, along with a large amount of material not yet exhibited, amounting to about 200 pieces.
