The Museum of the Italian Red Cross was founded in 1981, and began its activity on November 22, 1986.
The Museum is located on the second floor and in the attic, specially arranged, of the building of the C.R.I. Headquarters in Campomorone. This structure is unique in the country and accompanies the International Red Cross Museum of Castiglione delle Stiviere, in the province of Mantua, established in 1959 on the grounds of the Battle of Solferino of 1859. Currently, the museum consists of 11 exhibition rooms, 39 open panels placed on the staircase, containing Conventions, Principles of the Red Cross, period photos of the war periods, display cases with documents and C.R.I. objects used during the two world wars; as well as philatelic material, including postcards and letters to and from prisoner or search camps for missing soldiers, and very rare photographic documents of the war period and beyond. Of great interest is the exhibition set up in the attic, which constitutes the environment of a hospital and other military relief situations. Overall, it is about 500 exhibited objects, inventoried, described, and cataloged, as well as a large amount of material not yet exhibited, amounting to about 200 pieces.
