La Collezione Spada originates from the passion of Dr. Francesco Spada, a hematologist physician, enthusiastic about antiques and music, who over a period of about twenty-five years acquires as many as 750 pieces, touring flea markets and antique shops. The Collection, divided into fourteen families, has been studied, photographed, cataloged, and restored. In particular, for each instrument, an organological study has been conducted that allows the insertion of the piece into a particular historical and geographical context, but also takes into account the physical-textual characteristics concerning the construction materials and subsequent interventions performed on it to alter its sound according to changing tastes over time. And with this perspective, aimed at respecting the authenticity of the instrument, restoration operations have been carried out and diagnostic techniques implemented. Another fundamental element emerged during an important exhibition “Music Outside Theaters” is undoubtedly an in-depth study of the instrument that led to the manifestation of immaterial characteristics related to sound production and its contextualization in certain social environments, hence the interesting empathy with the territory in a lively cultural and scientific confrontation.
