Collocated in the ambulatory of the Cathedral, the museum presents a significant overview of Valdostan art from the 13th to the 18th centuries, combining pieces from the Cathedral’s rich treasury with some works of art from various parishes in the Valley.
Among the most precious specimens, a Roman-era cameo set in a gold frame with stones and pearls from the 13th century, used as a cope clasp; among the unique pieces, a consular diptych of Honorius, a testimony to late Roman art.
The Gothic sculptures are very important: among the oldest works a carved wooden altar frontal from the 13th/14th century.
The collection of goldsmithery is very rich with French objects of Limoges art and fine silver reliquary busts engraved and set with crystals and stones. Exceptional pieces are present such as the large reliquary chest of Saint Gratus, whose execution, initially entrusted to Guglielmo di Locana, was completed after his death by the Fleming Jean de Malines.
Part of the museum is a collection of marble sepulchral sculptures, 15th-century productions by the Valdostan artist Stefano Mossettaz.
