The first section is dedicated to the bibliography of this citrus fruit. Moving further, you will come to the Museum area, where you can admire all the materials regarding the distillation of the essential oil, which is the only natural product capable of fixing the aromatic bouquet of perfumes, giving them a unique fragrance still unmatched by synthetic oils. In the central area of the Museum are displayed the machines, which testify to the entire history and progress in the processing of Bergamot: from the first hand-cranked one invented by Barillà from Reggio, up to the electric ones. Another section is dedicated to the collection of all materials, also accompanied by historical photos and various objects gathered from all over the world, related to the actual trade of the product. The fifth section of the Museum is dedicated to the use, not secondary, of Bergamot in food and wine. In this field, the whole fruit is used.
The last section of the Museum is dedicated to the display of finished products derived from the processing of Bergamot; thus, not only can you glimpse bottles containing the essential oil or personal care products, among which the famous “Calabrisella” (cologne water), but also dolls, roses, and snuff boxes made from the dried peel of Bergamot.
