The first section is dedicated to the bibliography of this citrus fruit. Continuing further, you will reach the Museum area, where it is possible to admire all the materials related to the distillation of the essential oil, which is the only natural product capable of fixing the aromatic bouquet of perfumes, giving them a unique fragrance still unmatched by synthetic oils. In the central area of the Museum, the machines are exhibited, which testify to the entire history and progress in the processing of Bergamot: from the first hand-cranked one invented by the Reggio native Barillà, to the electric ones. Another area is dedicated to the collection of all material, also accompanied by historical photos and various objects gathered from around the world, related to the actual trade of the product. The fifth section of the Museum is dedicated to the not secondary use of Bergamot in food and wine. In this field, the whole fruit is used.
The last section of the Museum is dedicated to the exhibition of finished products obtained from the processing of Bergamot; thus, not only bottles containing essential oil or personal care products, including the famous “Calabrisella” (Cologne water), can be seen, but also dolls, roses, and snuffboxes made from the dried peel of Bergamot.
