Il Parco Archeologico di San Leucio, located on a hill southeast of Canosa, undoubtedly represents one of the most important historical and archaeological testimonies of the area. The hill first saw the construction of an imposing Italic temple, dedicated to the goddess Minerva, destroyed at the end of the 5th century AD. Later, on the ruins of the temple, a paleochristian basilica with a central plan is believed to have arisen, initially dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian and only later to St. Leucius. The two buildings located outside the ancient city are now part of a site where countless archaeological researches have been conducted, many of which included excavation campaigns carried out by “Sapienza – University of Rome”. In 2008, inside the San Leucio Archaeological Park, the Antiquarium was inaugurated, which houses many artifacts derived from the Temple of Minerva and the Christian basilica.
