Praia a Mare is nestled between the coast of Maratea and San Nicola Arcella. The location is very lively in the summer and features kilometers of beach, with the Fiuzzi area being the highlight. In front of the Fiuzzi beach lies the Island of Dino, once a divers’ destination.
Scalea, defined by its very name: the old town is indeed terraced, on a hill overlooking the sea, and offers evidence of medieval architecture, Norman mansions from the 12th century, a Cylindrical Tower from the 15th century; ruins of the Grancia and the 13th-century Franciscan convent. Through alleys and steps, you reach the top of the town, where the small church of the Spedale stands, of Byzantine origin, with frescoes. To the north of the village, you descend to the most spectacular stretch of the coast, where the Arcomagno Cave is hidden.
Modern Scalea rises along the coast and is a well-established seaside resort. Another pearl of the Riviera is Diamante, one of the most picturesque towns, with a magnificent promenade, known for the Academy of Chili Pepper that highlights all the qualities of the vegetable with advice and special recipes based on chili pepper; for the citron granitas and the murals.
