From Bisentina Island, in Lake Bolsena to the Sabatini Mountains where Lake Bracciano is located. A natural and pleasant journey in the Lazio region.

First day

Bisentina Island, in Lake Bolsena, the largest volcanic basin in Europe

Served by the boats of the Alto Lazio company, the island is a triumph of rare and ancient vegetation: chestnut groves, oaks, lindens, ancient olive trees, meadows, and crops. Amid the greenery, there is also the Renaissance church of SS. James and Christopher, flanked by a beautiful Italian garden.

Back on the mainland, you can take the Cassia road, which quickly leads to Lake Vico, the heart of the Cimini Mountains and home to a Natural Reserve covering 3346 hectares, with completely different environments: the lake with reed beds, the wetland area; the hazelnut crops and, at higher altitudes, chestnuts, coppice and high forest, where various species of birds of prey also live. In several locations, “nature trails” have been set up, equipped areas for stops and picnics, bicycles, canoes, and pedal boats can be rented.
