Il Goldsteig trail o Gold Path is a 660 km long German circuit. Located in the Bavarian region, the route starts at Marktredwitz and ends in Passau, drawing a beautiful itinerary along the border with the Czech Republic.

Divided into 23 daily stages, the journey will take you to the foot of the Fichtelgebirge massif and to visit enchanted places such as the ruins of Weißenstein Castle and the ” Land der Tausend Teiche” the famous landscape of the “thousand ponds”.

Through the Bavarian Forest and the Upper Palatinate Forest (massif) you will find yourself discovering ancient castles, imposing strongholds, and charming villages.

On the border with the Bohemia region, you will encounter the “Green Roof of Europe”, the magnificent forest landscape of the Bavarian Forest that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Urals.

The route is divided into two variants: the southern and the northern. The southern variant ventures into the wonderful alpine landscapes, the northern one extends into the Bavarian Forest National Park.

In addition to the main route, the Goldsteig offers many different optional trails that will give you the possibility to lengthen or shorten part of the initial route.

A path made up of a combination of cultures, such as the Bavarian and the Bohemian, which will certainly not disappoint the expectations even of the most demanding trekkers.
