The Goldsteig Trail, known as the “Golden Path,” is a renowned German hiking route stretching 660 km through Bavaria. The trail starts in Marktredwitz and finishes in Passau, tracing a scenic route along the border with the Czech Republic.

Divided into 23 daily stages, the journey leads you through the impressive Fichtelgebirge Massif, past enchanting sites such as the ruins of Weißenstein Castle, and through the famous “Land der Tausend Teiche”—the land of a thousand ponds.

As you cross the Bavarian Forest and the Upper Palatinate Forest massif, you’ll discover ancient castles, imposing fortresses, and picturesque villages.

Nearing the Bohemian region, you’ll encounter the “Green Roof of Europe,” the vast woodlands of the Bavarian Forest that stretch from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Urals.

The trail splits into two main routes: the southern variant traverses breathtaking alpine landscapes, while the northern option leads through the Bavarian Forest National Park.

Along with the main route, Goldsteig offers various alternative trails, allowing you to extend or shorten your journey as you wish.

This itinerary weaves together Bavarian and Bohemian cultures, delighting even the most demanding trekkers.
