Museum of Orsanmichele, Florence

The statues depicting the patron saints of the major Florentine guilds, originally placed in the tabernacles outside Orsanmichele, are displayed, after being restored and replaced by copies, in the large hall on the first floor of the building, which is accessed through the elevated passage that connects it to the Palazzo dell’arte della Lana.

In large part created in the second decade of the fifteenth century, the statues of Orsanmichele represent a fundamental document of Early Renaissance sculpture, to which among others Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Nanni di Banco, and Andrea del Verrocchio contributed.

On the top floor of the building, Gothic sculptures attributable to Andrea Orcagna are preserved.
