La Cooperativa Ceramica di Imola has been active since 1874 and the museum was established in 1979 to enhance its historical memory. The path develops in three sections, respectively dedicated to the evolution of the decorations produced by the Artistic Section of the company, to the ceramists who influenced the types of artistic and industrial production, and finally to the works made here by contemporary artists. In the eponymous Hall, the serial production of the decorations produced by the Artistic Section is preserved. It is thus possible to observe both the continuity and the evolution of tastes and styles (among other things, the introduction of the blue carnation, suggested by Giò Ponti, which reprises a traditional motif but with a shade typical of the Cooperativa Ceramica d’Imola, can be noted). In the Authors’ Hall, a series of plates with marks help the visitor identify, from a chronological point of view, both the artistic and industrial production of the company. Here the most significant ceramists who worked at the Company are represented with their works. In the Contemporary Artists’ Hall, works created from 1981 onwards by great contemporary artists at the Cooperativa Ceramica d’Imola are finally exhibited. Among others, Hsiao Chin, Remo Brindisi, Enrico Baj, Lucio Del Pezzo, Agenore Fabbri, Tullio Pericoli, Gianfranco Pardi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Aldo Spoldi, Emilio Tadini, Joe Tilson appear here, testimony to a conscious search by “Imola” for a fruitful relationship with the living currents of contemporary art.
