Il Museum of the Environment of Lecce is structured in an exhibition area of 1000 square meters, in a set of services including offices, study room, storage for collections, laboratory. Five workstations located along the educational route allow access to a computer platform that, in addition to the catalogs of study collections, the photographic herbarium, and the Department Library catalog, will contain interactive programs concerning the various Sciences of which the Museum is a showcase.

The Museum is associated with researchers and laboratories that carry out intense research activities in the fields of Geology, Paleontology, and Climatology of the Salento geographical area and deals with the safeguarding of the scientific instrumental heritage of Salento. Great importance is given to temporary exhibitions, also organized in different locations throughout the regional territory. Currently, the Museum is under renovation and its reopening is planned for autumn (October 2012).
