Portobello London
Getting to the Portobello market in London is convenient and easy, thanks to two underground stations, Notting Hill Gate and Ladbroke Grove, and the countless bus routes. Besides being the most famous in London, Portobello is also the most touristy, with all the pros and cons. On the stalls, there are pieces of antiques, old junk, bric-à-brac of all kinds, even the most unimaginable things; prices range from a few pounds to really hefty sums, which require maintaining a high level of critical sense, as not everything is as original and exclusive as the dealers, the exhibitor-sellers, want you to believe.
London Markets
More rustic, authentic and definitely affordable, they are markets like Camden Town, Brick Lane, Brixton or the Borough Market, for those who do not disdain culinary delights.
Camden Town, excellently served by bus and metro, includes not one but many markets, starting with the Camden Loch Market, housed in an old warehouse near the Regent Canal (open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, although the best days are Saturday and Sunday), and specialized in crafts, clothing, costume jewelry.
Just a few dozen meters away, on the east side, here is the Buck Street Market, open Monday to Sunday, from 9:30 am to 6 pm, where stalls concentrate with clothing and T-shirts in the most extravagant styles, incredible creations by local stylists and designers eager to make themselves known.
A few blocks to the north instead open the Stables Market, created in what used to be the old stables, as evidenced by the large bronze statues of horses. Open Monday to Friday, from 10:30 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 am, it offers an impressive amount of vintage clothing, second-hand items, old records, objects from attics and cellars, but also Japanese kimonos, ethnic dresses, African masks, garments and things resulting from the most volcanic creativity of young and anonymous designers.
Finally, the Canal Market, active only Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, and devoted to accessories, T-shirts featuring rock stars, and street food.
