Il laboratorio di Tessitura artistica a mano Giuditta Brozzetti si trova in via Tiberio Bernardi, non lontano da porta Sant’Angelo, nel centro di Perugia.
Occupies the spaces of the 13th-century church of San Francesco delle Donne, among the oldest Franciscan settlements in Italy. Built on the site where Saint Francis stayed, it owes its name to the fact that, in 1252, it was given to a community of Benedictine nuns.
The Laboratory was founded in 1921 by Giuditta Brozzetti, a prominent figure in female entrepreneurship in the Umbrian capital. The heirs maintain the tradition, producing fabrics and textiles with decorative motifs of medieval and Renaissance origin made with manual looms. Among the objects preserved in the laboratory are three traditional four-harness manual looms, dating from the 17th to the 19th century, eight jacquard looms (Vincenzi patent), two 17th-century looms for weaving the “Flame of Perugia” stitch, as well as drawings and cartoons that document the laboratory’s production from its origins to today.
