Ecomuseo dei terrazzamenti e della vite, Cortemilia

The Ecomuseum of Terraces and Vine was created with the aim of contributing to the recognition of terraced landscapes as monumental works of human commitment, wisdom, and patience, telling the story, traditions, and ways of life of the societies that built them in ancient times and that today preserve them. The beauty of the terraced landscape therefore has great intellectual and social content, as well as environmental: it contains the history of a community that was able to find a way to survive by making the best use of the elements it had. It is the testimony of the rural world and its millennial culture.

The “Roads of the Terraces” include routes that use trails, country roads, secondary and paved roads, offering paths lasting a few hours or a whole day. Each itinerary favors a particular aspect of the ecomuseum area: from historical-architectural routes to those entirely immersed in nature shaped by man. Special interest has been given to thematic itineraries, designed to offer the simplest and most complete view of rural life in the Alta Langa: one route is dedicated to popular religiosity, the other to the “Scau” (round drying ovens) and leads to the discovery of a historical and architectural reality far from the classic image of the rural Piedmontese world.
