Imposing and austere, the castle was the home of one of the most powerful feudal families in the region.
Situated on a hill, with a panoramic view over the entire Non Valley, it is surrounded by a complex system of fortifications consisting of towers, walls, bastions, a walkway, and a moat dating back to the sixteenth century. From the same period dates the powerful Spanish Gate, beyond which you access the drawbridge and the first courtyard.
Here stands the imposing Baronial Palace.
Inside the vast spaces, numerous rooms follow one another, preserving the rich original furnishings and an interesting family art collection.
The most valuable and interesting environment is the sixteenth-century Bishop’s Room, entirely covered with Swiss pine wood.
Castel Thun was acquired in 1992 by the Autonomous Province of Trento.
The building and furnishings are still subject to careful and demanding restoration and study work.
