Among the wonders of the province of Messina: the Greco-Roman theater of Taormina.
It was created by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC and later modified by the Romans.
After the one in Syracuse, it is the largest Greek-origin theater in all of Sicily.
Stone blocks from Taormina (similar to marble) are found under the stage, a typical Greek construction method.
In the following centuries, the Romans began their work of restructuring and expansion, which took about ten years.
