Over the years, the village has become one of the main attractions of an area that, in winter, unleashes an irresistible magic. The sparkling snow carpet covering clearings and forests acts as a magnet for winter sports enthusiasts and also for those who simply want to enjoy a ride on reindeer sledges or a fast snowmobile.
There are numerous cross-country ski trails, and the Ounasvaara ski center, with downhill and snowboard courses, is so close that it can be seen right from the center of Rovaniemi itself.
