Amsterdam Markets
In Holland, markets are an absolute must, such as the Albert Cuyp Market, the most famous and busiest in Amsterdam, located in the heart of the Pijp district, south of the historic center, where over 300 stalls offer everything: food, flowers, clothing, footwear… at prices considered among the most affordable in the city.
Romantic and fragrant, the central flower market is the Bloemenmarkt, with floating stalls (the last remaining in the city) full of flowers, bulbs, and seasonal plants.
Also in Amsterdam, a large shopping center is Holland Magna Plaza, near the central Dam Square, housed in a 19th-century building that was once the central post office. But the pinnacle of department stores is De Bijenkorf, known as the “Dutch Harrods,” a mecca for elegant and quality shopping. On its four floors of stores, you’ll find everything from the best global designer brands: clothing for women, men, and children; accessories; toys; home goods…

Between purchases, it’s very pleasant to take a break at the literary café, the restaurant, and the various internal bistros. Antique and curiosities lovers should not miss the Spiegelkwartier, a neighborhood opposite the Rijksmuseum, which is a colorful maze of towpaths, alleys, and canals, home to a plethora of shops selling antiques and fascinating items: paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and art glass; books, coins, and memorabilia from when Amsterdam was a naval power.
